Дорогі Члени Катедри Св. Софії квітень 2008.

Перед Великодній Привіт Вам!

Вже три роки минуло від коли я дав згоду служити нашій громаді як Голова Управи. Я цього не очікував, але це мені припало, і я побачив нагоду змінити напрям нашої громади. Інші особи громади були тої самої думки. Ми признаємо працю бувших управ громади котрі тяжко працювали і присвячували свій час вкладаючи дуже багато годин на добро і успіх нашої громади. Ми мали багато думок як покращати нашу Катедру .

Ми хотіли довезти ремонти котрі були необхідні для нашої святині та наших приміщень, але також покращати спілкування поміж управою громади і нашими членами. Ми не мали іншого вибору, а мусіли скоро починати ремонти щоб не дозволити більше пошкодження будинків. Важке питання нам було чи ми як громада підтримаємо наших членів морально, чи їх розчаровуємо? Чи ми заохочуємо нових членів? Це питання мусить змінити нашу думку та поведінку.

Перший крок що Управа взяла на себе, це передумати все що діємо як громада.

Як ми вітаємо і заохочуємо нових людей стати членами нашої громади і як заохотити їх до добровільної праці? В який спосіб ми підтримуємо наших членів в часах їх радостей та їх смутків ? Як ми можемо найкраще управляти нашій адміністративно-господарські справи, святиню та оселю? Яким чином ми можемо помагати нашому настоятелю, отцю Володимирові, поширювати Науку Ісуса Христа? І на кінець якими новими імпрезами або способами ми можемо зібрати грошей для всіх цих проектів. Частина вище згаданою праці є духовна і соціальна, але ми також потребуємо фінансових ресурсів.

Ми як Управа думаємо що ми підступили до цих потреб. Може все не так швидко виконується як ми бажаємо , але ми однак ідемо в перед. Як наш духовний батько, отець Володимир, знов відновив Місійний Комітет, котрий помагає нам зміцнити нашу віру і зрозуміти Православ’я у нашій Українські Церкві. Наша Катедральна Управа бажає керувати матеріальними та духовними справами нашої громади.

Як Ви бачити, багато діється в Катедрі Св. Софії. Ми разом працюємо здійснити нашу мету з поміччю наших добровольців і учасників котрі щиро дають свій час і матеріальну поміч. Моя щира подяка вам всім за ваше довір’я та підтримку в нашому напрямку на новий підхід до праці. Ми вже зробили рух в перед, але ще є багато проектів котрі потребують більше добровольців. Просимо взяти перший крок і зголосити вашу поміч. Пам’ятайте що коли працюємо для церкви, то робимо це для Бога.

Нехай цій Великодні Свята принесуть вашим родинам здоров’я , радість та Боже Благословення!

Dear Fellow Parishioners of St. Sophie’s Cathedral April 2008

Lenten Greetings to all of you.

It has been three years since I accepted the position of Parish President. It was not something that I looked for but something that came my way. What pushed me was the opportunity to take our parish in a different direction and a team of people who thought the same way. While acknowledging that the previous parish executives had kept our parish going through thick and thin through many hundreds of hours of dedicated hard work, we felt an underlying need to step up to a new level. What level was that? That was and is a good question – for it meant stepping out into the unknown.

We knew we wanted to do something more e.g. focus on the maintenance of our premises and improve the communication between the parish executive and the membership-at-large. These two concerns were relatively easy to address because they are practical and visible matters. Ironically, we had no choice but to move quickly on renovating our property before it suffered more and more serious damage. But a more difficult question to deal with was whether our parish life was actually giving strength to our current members, and, also very important, was it attracting new members? Or was it allowing current members to drop out and discouraging potential ones from joining? Addressing this question would have to take us into new ways of thinking and behaving.

The first task that the Executive set for itself was to re-think everything that we do as a parish. How do we welcome and integrate new people into our membership and into volunteer activities? How do we as a parish support our current members through their joys and hardships? How can we best administer and maintain our property, i.e. church and camp? How can we support Fr. Volodymyr in spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ? And, finally, what new ways are there to raise funds to support all this activity for, though the work is of a spiritual & social nature, the resources we need are material ones?

We, the Executive, feel that we have stepped up to this challenge. Though the changes may not be happening as fast as some would like, nevertheless, we are moving forward. In his role as our spiritual leader, Fr. Volodymyr has activated the Mission Committee who, through their work, enable us to be stronger in our faith, to know and understand more about Orthodoxy especially as it reveals itself in our Ukrainian Church, We do not want to be side tracked by the politics in the Orthodox world. Rather, the Parish Executive aims to be responsible stewards of the material needs and spiritual life of our Parish.

As we work together towards our new goals, you can see there is much happening at St. Sophie. This is thanks to all you volunteers and participants who give so generously of your time & resources. I thank you all for your confidence and support, & your leap of faith in moving with the Executive in a new direction. In spite of this progress, there still is room for many more activities and many more people to become involved. Just step forward and speak out. Remember that the work we do for God comes back to bless us many times over.
